The Only Sensor That Measures What Your Trees Actually Feel

Soil sensors measure the dirt. Weather stations measure the air. FloraPulse measures the tree — directly from the trunk. Stem water potential is the gold-standard indicator of plant water stress, and we deliver it to your phone every 20 minutes, no field visits required.

Most Accurate Data

Direct stem water potential — the measurement researchers trust most. Validated in 34 independent scientific publications.

Real-Time, Every Day

Readings every 20 minutes, 7 days a week. No technicians, no field visits, no weekly gaps in your data.

Save Water, Boost Yield

Growers typically save 15–40% on water while increasing yields and improving fruit quality.

How It Works

1
Install

A tiny sensor is embedded into the trunk in minutes. Two probes per tree for redundancy, plus a solar-powered cellular datalogger.

2
Monitor

Readings every 20 minutes, delivered to your phone. See real-time stem water potential with weather-adjusted baselines.

3
Irrigate

Color-coded stress levels and crop-specific triggers tell you exactly when to water. No guesswork.

Solutions for Every Grower

Whether you grow tree crops, manage vineyards, or conduct plant science research — we have you covered.

Wine grape vineyard using FloraPulse irrigation sensors

Wine & Table Grapes

To get the best wines, water timing and quantity is critical. It’s well known that vine water status affects wine quality – you want to keep the vines water-stressed just the right amount to bring out the desired aromas and body, without shutting down photosynthesis or unduly decreasing yield.

  • The pressure chamber gives accurate readings, but the logistics of sending technicians and tabulating data are a pain. And you only get one datapoint a week. It’s not reliable.
  • Soil moisture sensors only tell you half the story. You are making critical decisions based off incomplete data.

The FloraPulse microtensiometer gives you direct measurements of vine water potential, every-single-day. Easily keep your vines at the desired water-stress level and tune your irrigation to get high quality grapes, consistently year-after-year. Never again guess if you irrigated too early or too late.

Almond orchard monitored with FloraPulse stem water potential sensors

Almond, Prune, Cherry, Peaches

Well irrigated trees produce more crop, but irrigate too little or too much and the problems begin. Irrigate too little, and trees become weak, yields decrease, and pathogen risk increases. Irrigate too much, and trees become susceptible to fungi and oxygen depletion at the root level.

  • Researchers recommend pressure chamber readings to determine irrigation, but you may skip this because the logistics of this instrument are painful. It’s no fun going to the field, middle of the day, to take measurements during the hottest time, then tabulating and interpreting them.
  • Soil moisture sensors only tell you half the story. You are making critical decisions based off incomplete data

The FloraPulse microtensiometer gives you direct measurements of tree water potential, every-single-day. Easily keep your trees at the recommended water-stress level and tune your irrigation to get the highest yields, consistently year-after-year. Never again guess about your irrigation.

Scientists

Interested in plant water relations, but you have no time for taking pressure chamber measurements, or dealing with challenging instruments that need replacing every other week?

The FloraPulse microtensiometer is a set-and-forget sensor of water potential. After a 20-minute installation, our system gives you continuous readings of plant water potential for a whole growing season or longer. With access to season-long, continuous water potential measurement, new research avenues become possible. Buy a few now to try them out, or write us into your next grant application.

What Growers Are Saying

Derek Sohnrey, FloraPulse customer testimonial
Quote icon Almonds

“It’s extremely helpful, especially when you’re trying to manage multiple crops. Everybody’s trying to run small crews nowadays. From a time management side, (FloraPulse) is really nice. Several times I wouldn’t think I needed to irrigate yet, and it’s like, oh, wow, I definitely need to irrigate.”

“We switched to FloraPulse plant stress sensors and holy moly, having real time data on plant stress is pretty wild. We were used to looking at polaroids. Now we’re looking at a feature length film. It’s a brave new world.”

Quote icon Prunes

“The data we received from the FloraPulse sensors in prune fits the pressure chamber measurements and has proven very useful. Having daily water potential measurements has allowed us to decrease water use by 45%, to save on water pumping costs, drying costs and increase our fruit size and dry weight yields.”

Common Questions

How is FloraPulse different from soil sensors?

Soil sensors measure moisture in the dirt — not what the plant actually feels. FloraPulse measures stem water potential directly from the trunk, the same gold-standard measurement researchers use with a pressure chamber, but automated and continuous.

What crops do you support?

Almonds, wine grapes, table grapes, cherries, prunes, apples, olives, peaches, pears, walnuts, pistachios, and more. 15+ crop types validated across 23+ countries.

Do I need WiFi or internet in the field?

No. The datalogger has built-in cellular connectivity and solar power. It works anywhere with cell coverage — no WiFi, no wiring, no power source needed.

Can I try it for one season?

Yes. Subscriptions are annual with no long-term commitment. Most growers renew because the data pays for itself in water savings and yield gains.

How long does installation take?

About 30 minutes per tree. In our service area, we handle everything. For remote customers, self-install is straightforward with our guided support.

Does the sensor harm the tree?

No. The microtensiometer is a tiny probe inserted into the trunk. Trees heal around it naturally, and we have sensors that have been running for years with no adverse effects.
