How It Works

1
Install

Sensor embedded in the trunk in minutes. Two probes per tree for redundancy, plus a solar-powered cellular datalogger.

2
Monitor

Readings every 20 minutes delivered to your phone. See real-time stem water potential with weather-adjusted baselines.

3
Irrigate

Color-coded stress levels and crop-specific triggers tell you exactly when to water. No guesswork, no spreadsheets.

Grower Tested and Approved

Derek Sohnrey, almond grower using FloraPulse
Quote icon Almonds

“It’s extremely helpful, especially when you’re trying to manage multiple crops. Everybody’s trying to run small crews nowadays. From a time management side, (FloraPulse) is really nice. Several times I wouldn’t think I needed to irrigate yet, and it’s like, oh, wow, I definitely need to irrigate.”

“We were extremely happy with the FloraPulse system we tested in our prune orchard this year. We found that the FloraPulse readings correlated very well with our pressure bomb readings.”

Why FloraPulse is Way Better Than Other Methods

Pressure chamber vs FloraPulse automated stem water potential measurement

Pressure Chamber

Researchers recommend pressure chamber readings to determine
irrigation, but the logistics of this instrument are painful. It’s no fun going to the field, middle of the day, to take measurements during the hottest time, then tabulating and interpreting them. You would love to get direct water potential data every day, but it’s just too difficult and expensive with the pressure chamber.

Soil Moisture

Soil moisture sensors only tell you half the story—they only measure the water content in a small volume of soil. You are making critical decisions based off incomplete data. The soil may appear wet when the tree is thirsty, or the soil may appear dry when the tree is waterlogged. You need to ask the tree directly.

FloraPulse sensor probes embedded in tree trunk for water stress measurement

Evapotranspiration

Evapotranspiration (ET) tells you how much water the trees have used, approximately, based on assumptions of leaf cover and measurements taken on a grass field. Even with accurate ET data, common unknowns can completely throw off your results: underground water sources, accumulated water from winter precipitation, incorrect assumptions in your crop coefficient. Unfortunately, guidelines for ET were developed 40 years ago with completely different irrigation systems and methods. ET, although a useful measure, cannot tell you when to irrigate.

FloraPulse complete irrigation monitoring system hardware

FloraPulse

The FloraPulse microtensiometer gives you direct measurements of tree water potential, every-single-day. Easily keep your trees at the recommended water-stress level and tune your irrigation to get the highest yields, consistently year-after-year. Never again guess about your irrigation. FloraPulse is an investment that will pay for itself many times over.

Common Questions

What crops do you support?

Almonds, prunes, apples, cherries, olives, peaches, pears, wine grapes, table grapes, and more. 15+ crop types across 23+ countries.

Do I need WiFi or internet in the field?

No. The datalogger has built-in cellular connectivity and solar power. It works anywhere with cell coverage — no WiFi, no wiring, no power source needed.

Can I try it for one season?

Yes. Subscriptions are annual with no long-term commitment. Most growers renew because the data pays for itself in water savings and yield gains.

How long does installation take?

About 30 minutes per tree. In our service area, we handle everything. For remote customers, self-install is straightforward with our guided support.
